Let us be #UnitedForACleanPlanet.
Flood is an annual recurring environmental disaster in many states in Nigeria.
Ibadan is no exception as roads and sometimes homes are overrun by running water from a
heavy downpour.
The reason for this especially in the Ibadan metropolis is not farfetched.
It is not for a lack of drainages nor abundance of it but simply by deliberate and intentional littering of the environment by citizens who either out of ignorance or deliberate indulgence should know stand a risk of being affected by floods.
This year’s world-cleanup day seeks to focus attention on the need to clean up the environment as a remedy to flood. Plastic wastes are the primary objects acting as obstacles to the free flow of water in drainages when it rains. These wastes are littered all around and become a danger to the people living around this artificial flood-prone
areas which came about due to blocked drainages.
This exercise is therefore geared towards cleaning the environment and sensitizing citizens of the dangers of not properly disposing of plastic waste.
